The North Carolina Association of Pharmacists has a record of success in advocating for pharmacists and their patients at the General Assembly. The Association works tirelessly to enact new legislation that serves to protect and advance the profession. In recent legislative sessions, the Association has successfully served to enact new laws designed to yield greater healthcare transparency, consumer and pharmacy protections, as well as pass laws that elevate the role of pharmacists in public health through limited prescriptive authority, and the expansion of immunization authority for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The Association has also been successful in broadening the pharmacy practice act to include injectable medication administration. More information on these specific victories can be found among the historical notes for previous and/or current priority issues. In addition, NCAP leadership and your lobbyists have:

  • Testified before legislative committees on pharmacy-related issues.
  • Participated in Department of Insurance work leading to an improved complaint-submission portal and process.
  • Participated in a legislative-appointed workgroup on specialty pharmacy issues.
  • Educated policy makers on all legislative matters related to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Organized and held very successful “advocacy” days at the General Assembly.
  • Established and/or deepened existing relationships with national pharmacy organizations and with NC organizations and lobbyists.

Due to the involvement of our members, NCAP has become more firmly positioned as THE VOICE for pharmacy in North Carolina!
