NCAP Student Advocacy Series

Overview: Through this initiative, you will learn how to become a proper student advocate through sessions in:

  1. Why Advocate as a Student Pharmacist?
  2. State Pharmacy Legislation Information Session
  3. Hot Topics Discussion on Pharmacy Legislation
  4. Legislator Meeting Preparatory Session
  5. Virtual Meetings with State Legislators

Purpose: Provide students with the knowledge and tools to create meaningful conversations with legislators regarding pertinent state pharmacy legislation. The North Carolina Association of Pharmacists Student Pharmacist Forum (NCAP SPF), representing all four schools of pharmacy, has collaborated to afford all pharmacy students the opportunity to become confident student advocates. Students will earn an “Advocacy Certificate” upon fulfilling requirements of the initiative and participating in a live meeting(s) with a state legislator. To register, please complete this form.

Certificate Requirements: Earning the Advocacy Certificate can be accomplished by completing the following:

✅   Attendance of the FIRST event (Why Advocate)

✅   Attendance of the SECOND OR THIRD events (Legislative Information Session, Hot Topics)

✅   Attendance of the FOURTH event (Legislative Preparatory Session)

✅   Attendance at Legislative Day OR recording a 1-2 minute professional video addressing your legislator.

Click on the video player above to join the SPF Chair, Shane Garrettson, as he goes over what this series is all about and why you should become a student advocate.

Students unable to join a live session can satisfy their certificate requirement by viewing the missed session once the recorded version is available. Recorded sessions require completion of both a short questionnaire and 150-word essay to earn a certificate.

The Advocacy Certificate is available to NCAP-SPF members only. If not a member, just Click Here to Join. Student memberships are only $10!

For any questions you may e-mail any of the NCAP SPF Leaders or Shane Garrettson at [email protected]
