These clinical toolkits are comprehensive, topic-specific resource packages designed to support pharmacists in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Each toolkit contains practical tools such as patient education materials, billing and reimbursement guidance, evidence-based clinical resources, state-specific protocols, patient assessment forms, customizable promotional content, and more.

Clinical Services Toolkit

Developed through a collaboration between The North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP) and financial support provided by Pfizer Inc. “A Toolkit for Establishing Clinical Pharmacy Services: The Feasibility, Implementation, Performance and Sustainability Assessment” is a practical guide offering realistic and reasonable processes and materials to assist you in establishing a clinical service. “A Case Demonstration Employing Chronic Pain Services” is also provided to showcase the application of the steps outlined in the toolkit.

 

 

COVID-19 Testing Toolkit

The COVID-19 Testing Toolkit is a resource for NC pharmacists to get the latest updates on COVID-19. This toolkit was developed by the NCAP COVID-19 work group in partnership with Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Members of the work group include Penny Shelton, Franklin Roye, Ritesh Patel, Todd Jackson, and Tony Solari. The Campbell University CPHS PharmD/MSPH student team includes Kayla Tunehag, Tayler Clark, Abby Cowan, and Emily Steinbock, along with their coordinator, Bill Taylor.

 

Diabetes Prevention Toolkit

Developed through a collaboration between the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP) and Campbell University pharmacy students, this Diabetes Prevention Toolkit is designed to assist NC pharmacists in Joining the Charge on diabetes prevention.  Learn how you can support the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program or incorporate NCAP's own diabetes prevention initiative, "A Healthier You", into your own practice. 

 

Glucagon Toolkit

As of February 1, 2022, immunizing pharmacists in North Carolina now have the authority to dispense, deliver, or administer Glucagon for the treatment of severe hypoglycemia. This new authority marks a long-awaited win for our profession and addresses a clear public health need that will undoubtedly provide great value to our patients. While there is no requirement for advanced training per the NCBOP, this webpage has been developed as a resource to assist pharmacist in preparing for this practice advancement.

 

Harm Reduction

Overdose numbers in North Carolina have skyrocketed in the past year according to NCDHHS. Nearly four thousand people died in North Carolina in 2021 at the hands of drug overdoses. That’s a 29% increase from 2020. In February 2022 the National Drug Helpline placed North Carolina on red alert for increased risks of deaths from overdose of opioid and other drugs along with 27 other states. To counteract the growing crisis, one of the many recommendations from the American Medical Association (AMA) urged state governors to take actions through implementing harm reduction strategies.

Hypertension Toolkit

This toolkit was developed by Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences Pharmacy Faculty to support the NC DHHS, Division of Public Health, Community and Clinical Connections for Prevention and Health Branch’s efforts for the North Carolina Cardiovascular Health (CVH) Learning Collaborative, which convened between December 2023 and June 2025 with support from a team at the Department of Health Behavior within The Gillings School of Global Public Health at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

 

 

Influenza Test and Treat Toolkit

Effective October 1, 2025, the State Health Director issued two standing orders for pharmacists: one for point-of-care testing and treatment of active influenza, and another for prophylaxis of eligible high-risk patients after exposure. These orders remain in effect through January 1, 2027, or until permanent statewide protocols are adopted by the NC Boards of Pharmacy and Medicine. While in effect, pharmacists should list Dr. Larry Greenblatt, State Health Director, as the provider of record when dispensing antiviral therapy.

 

Immunization Toolkit

This toolkit is specially designed to assist NCAP members in staying up to date with current immunization practices.  It includes current immunization legislation for pharmacists, sample patient questionnaires, information regarding the North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR), example consent forms and protocols, specific vaccine information, example temperature logs, and much more!

 

Long-Acting Injectables Toolkit

Developed in partnership between the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP), Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, this toolkit is designed to enhance NCAP's Pharmacists Virtual Training Program for Long-Acting Injectables. This toolkit will aid pharmacists in developing services that meet both statutory and NCBOP rules to legally administer long-acting injectables.

 

 

Nicotine Replacement Therapy Toolkit

As of March 24, 2022, immunizing pharmacists in North Carolina now have the authority to dispense, deliver, or administer Nicotine Replacement Therapy to any person currently using nicotine who indicates a readiness to quit. This new authority marks a long-awaited win for our profession and addresses a clear public health need that will undoubtedly provide great value to our patients. While there is no requirement for advanced training per the NCBOP, this webpage has been developed as a resource to assist pharmacists in preparing for this practice advancement.

 

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Toolkit

Beginning February 1, 2022, immunizing pharmacists in NC will have the authority to provide post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV pursuant to CDC guidelines and recommendations without a prescription from a provider.

 

Prenatal Vitamins Toolkit

As of February 1, 2022, immunizing pharmacists in North Carolina now have the authority to dispense, deliver, or administer Prenatal or multivitamin with folic acid products. While there is no requirement for advanced training within the scope of this provision, this webpage has been developed as a resource to assist pharmacists in preparing for this practice advancement.
